Meet DUKE.

Duke is a blue merle MAS (Miniature American Shepherd) whose DOB is about 5/2024. He weighs in at 28 lbs. We suspect he has had a checkered past without the best of care, tossed between a bunch of homes – but he is realizing he does matter now and he is giving it the ole’ college try to be a good boy (he is succeeding!).

Duke always has a smile on his face, but he can be a bit shy at first introduction and is truly enjoying lots of pets and cuddles - he has gotten a lot better at trusting those of us who walk on two legs. He can be a bit head shy so we are working on that and we are confident he will forget his past (he tries hard!). Duke is a happy, energetic kind of guy who occasionally will bring out the pogo sticks and use them as his back legs – yep – he is able to dance like a Jackson’s Widow Bird looking for a mate. No mates for Duke – he is neutered!

Duke is great with dogs of all sizes and ages and he will only be adopted to a home with another energetic dog (or two) that will be his playmates – he needs the guidance and friendship of a settled, like minded best friend who also knows the mating rituals of the Jackson’s Widow Bird and can keep up with him. He has discovered toys and loves to play keep away, tag is his all-time favorite, and is really starting to enjoy life, being in a home and being part of a family, we are happy to see him blossom.

Duke is getting his basic training down, he is smart and a quick learner, and is working hard on house training with a doggy door. He is incredibly food motivated and is eager to learn. As with the majority of our herding dogs, no kids under eight and as far the meow wolves go; he would probably be fine with the right introduction and the capacity of said meow wolf to school an eager dog on how to treat them.

Yes, Duke is handsome with his pretty blue eyes, but so is Brad Pitt, and his looks do not qualify him as perfect for any home. He needs a home that understands the needs of herding breeds; people at least smart enough to keep up with him, a like-minded canine playmate or two, a fenced yard and a serious commitment to leash walking, and a family who actually enjoys exercise. Most importantly, he wants a family that will continue his training and socialization to become the best boy. He is a great dog for someone who knows and loves the breed and has super potential!

Duke is current on vaccinations, neutered, heartworm free and on preventative, micro chipped, wormed and ready to rumble. If you think you are ready for your own accountant with pogo legs, please complete an application found on the link above ADOPTION PROCESS and submit it to info@enchantmutts.org.

Sorry - DUKE WILL NOT be adopted out of the state of New Mexico.
